The hieroglyphics of Abu Simbel in Egypt are remarkable well preserved. In the 1960’s, as Lake Nasser threatened to engulf the 3300 year old temple, UNESCO cut them from the mountain and moved them to an artificial cliff 688 feet back and 213 feet above their original position.
